I have a few of these egg boxes, but I wanted to make a few more myself. They are so great for leaving at the bottom of your bed for the spring bunny to fill with goodies on easter. More on home-made (I mean spring bunny-made) goodies coming later.
I ordered the eggs from the german plaza, they are pretty sturdy, inexpensive and arrived in just a few days. The one I made is the smallest size for $1.60. They also sell beautifully decorated ones, check them out for ideas too.
To start I cut out an oval piece of paper about 1 inch bigger than the egg shell all around.
Then I glued it onto the center of the egg with mod-podge, and slowly made my way around smoothing it down with my finger nails. The edges over lap quite a bit, but it gives it a nice crinkled effect.
After letting it dry a bit, I trimmed the edges with little scissors and gave the edges a little mod-podge top coat. Once that was dry I hot glued on some trim.
I am happy with my first attempt. Here is what martha did with hers. I think that torn up bits at tissue paper or paint would work for younger kids.
